Secondly, you can’t monitor signal strength of ad-hoc networks, so you have to make sure the computers are fairly close to each other and don’t move around a lot. Lastly, ad-hoc networks don’t support all the security features of normal infrastructure networks, so they can be more easily hacked.

The advantages of a LAN and WAN. The LAN are the same as those for any group of devices networked together. The devices can use a single Internet connection, share files with one another, print to shared printers, and be accessed and even controlled by one another.
LANs were developed in the 1960s for use by colleges, universities, and research facilities, primarily to connect computers to other computers. It wasn't until the development of Ethernet technology (1973, at Xerox PARC), its commercialization (1980), and its standardization (1983) that LANs started to be used widely.
WAN covers larger geographical area. Hence business offices situated at longer distances can easily communicate.
Like LAN, it allows sharing of resources and application softwares among distributed workstations or users.
The software files are shared among all the users. Hence all will have access to latest files. This avoids use of previous versions by them.

If you have a computer that you're no longer using due to its slow speed, you can turn it into a network server for other computers in your household. You'll have to make sure you have a big enough hard drive (at least 100 GB) to store all the data you'll be putting on it, especially if you'll be using it to store videos, images, music or other files that take up a lot of room. It's better not to use a wireless connection to attach the computers to each other.
Plug your computer into a home networking router, and while your computer is running, click on the start button, then Settings. Click Control Panel, and double click Network Setup Wizard (icon of a house with a red roof). On the first two screens that the Wizard will offer you, click Next; then click the second choice, "This computer connects to the Internet through a residential gateway or through another computer on my network."
You'll then get a screen that prompts you to enter a computer description; then click Next. The next screen you get says to name your network by specifying a workgroup name, which you should leave as MSHOME, unless the other computers in your house are using a different workgroup name. Click Next. The next screen gives you the option of turning on or off file and printer sharing, so click the top choice (turn on file and printer sharing). Click Next twice more, and then wait for the Wizard to finish. Click the last option in the dialog box (Just finish the Wizard) and click Next. Click Finish to close the Wizard. Repeat this process for any other computer that you want to hook up to your home network server.

How To Manage Wireless Networks In Windows 7
If you have a wireless network card installed, an icon will display in the windows system tray.  You can Click this icon to view available networks and quickly access the Network and Sharing Center.

From the network and sharing center, the first stop is the wireless network management screen.  To get there Click Manage wireless networks from the left sidebar.

Alternatively, you can access this from the Start menu by Typing manage wireless into the search box and Clicking the Manage wireless networks control panel link.

Now we’re on the screen we want to be, the control panel section titled Manage Wireless Networks.  Listed will be all of the wireless networks that Windows 7 has connected to and saved the connection data for.  From here you can do quite a few different things. Just to list a few:

Adjust network priority by moving networks up or down on the list
Adjust adapter properties
Add new networks
Remove existing networks
Adjust profile types
If you have multiple users on your computer and security is an issue, the first thing you’ll want to do is Click Profile types and adjust the settings in there.

But if you want to keep other users on your computer from accessing the same networks, then set the profile type to “Use all-user and per-user profiles.
